Residents Blocked Kelapadua Wetan TPS

Hundreds of RW 08 Kelapadua Wetan residents, Ciracas, East Jakarta blocked disposal site (LPS) in their settlement that is converted as garbage depot. Residents demanded related institution to find the best solution for them to dispose garbage back to that location.

We cannot throw the garbage because LPS has already filled with garbage from other regions

The residents’ pique peaked due to the relevant agency that uses that LPS to be the garbage depot which also loads garbage from other sub-districts, even from South Jakarta. As a result, in addition to the difficulty of disposing the garbage, residents also suffered by the stench of garbage that accumulates due to sluggish disposing to Bantar Gebang TPA, Bekasi.

Nakim (42), RW 08 Kelapadua Wetan resident, uttered that the residents’ difficulty on disposing garbage has been ongoing in a month. “We have paid the garbage transporting fee. Previously, for one cart, residents had to pay Rp 15 thousand. But after the protest, residents only pay Rp 5 thousand. We cannot throw the garbage because LPS has already filled with garbage from other regions ,” Nakim complained, Monday (4/28).

Garbage Production in West Jakarta is the Highest

For that, residents hope to East Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department to turn back the early function of LPS.

Responding to that, Head of East Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department, Apul Silalahi admitted that Kelapadua Wetan LPS is the disposal site for the locals. However, as the time goes by, that location became the garbage depot so that the garbage from other regions can transit there before disposed to Bantar Gebang TPA.

“Residents were protesting about this matter. Today, we have agreement that other sub-districts garbage can not be disposed there. Now, they are able to dispose garbage in that LPS,” explained Silalahi.

Silalahi promised that the garbage from other four sub-districts: Kramatjati, Makasar, Pasar Rebo and Cipayung will not transit to Kelapadua Wetan LPS again. To solve this problem, he will make the garbage from those sub-districts will be accommodated in their region to further dispose to Bantar Gebang TPA.
